The deficit was less than last time, but Smithtown West still managed to get the better of Sachem North in the quarterfinals of the Suffolk County Class A playoffs on Tuesday.
No. 7 Sachem (10-7) lost, 13-8, to second-seeded Smithtown on the road.
The Bulls were powered by an electric third quarter, outscoring the Flaming Arrows, 6-1.
Ryan Keenan led Smithtown with five goals and three assists, while Joe Caridi led Sachem with three goals and three assists.
Jimmy Hoffman (2 goals), Shane DeBoer (2 goals and 2 assists) and Sean O’Brien (1 goal) also scored for Sachem.
Dylan Ciolino (6) and John Quinn (2) combined for eight saves.
Earlier in the season, Smithtown beat Sachem, 18-8. This is the second time Sachem has lost to Smithtown West in the quarterfinals. They lost by the same score in 2010.
Sachem has lost in the quarterfinals four out of the last five seasons.
