The Sachem North girls varsity Lacrosse team opened up there season with a 12-11 victory over Kings Park on Saturday at St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue.
The Flaming Arrows were lead by junior Jessica Mazliah, who had a game high seven points on the strength of six goals and one assist.
Mazliah’s final goal came with six seconds left in the game to break an 11 all tie.
Sophomore goalie Kaitlyn Lynch recorded 11 saves and earned the victory in her first varsity start.
Junior Kat Avanzato added two goals, and one assist, while four others chipped in a goal a piece including freshman Maddie Hoffer, who scored her first varsity goal, sophomore Brooke Basso, senior Aya Ferencsik, and freshman Brittani Sergio.
After falling behind 8-5 with 10 minutes remaining in the first half, Sachem would hold Kings Park to one goal over the next 33 minutes of game action.
“It was a solid overall team win,” said Sachem coach Ed Manly. “Anytime you can get a win against a quality opponent like Kings Park you’re very happy. We still have a ton of improving to do in all areas of our game. I thought Katie Lynch did a phenomenal job in goal and we played with a ton of heart.”
