This is a new series on Sachem Report called “Getting to know you …” where we profile random employees from around the Sachem Central School District. There are so many influential members of the Sachem Family doing amazing work behind the scenes and they deserve recognition as well.
First up is Stephanie MacIntosh, Sachem’s Administrator for Federal Funds, Research and Development, and a Sachem alum.
Sachem Report (SR): How did you end up in your current position? What has your career path been like?
Stephanie MacIntosh (SM): As a proud Sachem graduate, it gives me great pride to be working as an administrator in the Sachem School District. I’ve been the Administrator for Federal Funds for seven years. Prior to this position I taught sixth grade in South Huntington and worked as a Staff Developer through Eastern Suffolk BOCES in Sachem. Before taking this job, I was interning with Dr. Charles Murphy when he was in personnel. The position opened up just as I was graduating from the administration program at Dowling College and it was a perfect fit.
SR: Briefly describe your day-to-day operations and responsibilities.
SM: My office has the pleasure of working with the entire district to identify areas of need and explore avenues to provide funding to assist in meeting these needs. This can include the management of Federal Funding as well as competitive grants. One such example is the PEP grant, which through cooperative efforts has provided resources to further develop our physical education and health programs, impacting the life of every Sachem student. Some other responsibilities include monitoring state testing and student achievement data, working with the ESL department, overseeing the home teaching program and acting as a non-public liaison for the district.
SR: What’s your favorite part about your job?
SM: Being a part of the Sachem family and knowing that we are a part of the process that helps the best students in the world become their best selves.
SR: What separates Sachem from other school districts?
SM: The people. Sachem truly is a family and every employee of the district takes pride in knowing that they are a part of our students’ success. As a Sachem graduate I can honestly say that once you are a part of Sachem it is a part of who you are forever… the black, red and gold runs through your veins.
SR: What are your interests outside of Sachem? Where can we find you at night or on the weekends?
SM: I have a five-year-old son, so my time is often spent on the go-kart track or playing with him on the weekends. He also has become a fan of Sachem football and basketball, so you’ll hear him cheering at events when we can. He was at the famous East-Connetquot football game last year and still talks about it.
