Katie Mollot’s lacrosse career took an interesting turn last week when Shannon Smith named her as an assistant on her newly assembled coaching staff for the Hofstra University’s women’s lacrosse team.
Mollot, who graduated from Sachem in 2004, has been the head women’s coach at Farmingdale State for the last two seasons. Prior to that she was an assistant at Colgate.
“Katie Mollot brings an enormous amount of experience in the coaching field both as a former assistant and head coach,” Smith said in a statement. “She knows what it takes to win as a player and as a coach to achieve conference championships and berths to the NCAA Tournament. Katie Mollot will be a great role model for our players.”
At Farmingdale, Mollot led a reinvigorated program to a 21-10 record in two years, including a 13-2 campaign in 2012, the best season in school history.
A graduate of Towson University, she played four years for the Tigers and was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association team in 2008 as a senior captain. She played in the NCAA Tournament twice.
Mollot is not the first Sachem alum to coach at Hofstra. Joe Amplo was a longtime assistant with the Pride men’s squad before taking the head coaching position at Marquette University last year.
