Saturday’s FCS playoff game between No. 13 Stony Brook and No. 21 Villanova will feature two Sachem alums.
Craig Geoghan is listed as the backup quarterback for Stony Brook, while Davon Lawrence is at his usual spot on the depth chart at running back.
Lawrence has seen action sporadically throughout 2012, carrying 24 times for 205 yards and 1 touchdown. With Big South Conference star and NFL hopeful Miguel Maysonet, and Iowa transfer Marcus Coker leading the way this year, carries have been difficult to come by for Lawrence.
Snaps are equally as tough for Geoghan to get at quarterback, but with usual starter Kyle Essington out with an injury, he moves up to the backup spot on the depth chart for Saturday’s game, which starts at 3 p.m. at LaValle Stadium.
Geoghan, who saw brief time at quarterback against Pace on Sept. 8 earlier this year, has been the primary holder on field goals and extra point attempts. At Sachem, he graduated as the program’s most prolific passer. He still holds records for career-passing yards (2,146), season-passing yards (1,105), career completions (264), touchdowns in a season (11) and career (18).
Lawrence finished his Sachem career as one of the top running backs in program history. He is currently ranked No. 5 in career rushing yards with 2,166, and has the third highest yardage for a single-season with 1,887 in 2009, the same year he rushed for 25 touchdowns. He’s tied for second with the single-game scoring record, rushing for five touchdowns against Commack in Week 8 his senior year and his 9.32 yards per carry average is second only to Dalton Crossan’s 10.91.
