Playing in his first game at No. 6 Maryland, Sachem alum Matthew Keegan scored three goals and added two assists in a 12-7 victory over Richmond to open the season.
Keegan, who scored 87 goals in three seasons at Binghamton, was a highly-coveted player once he hit the transfer portal last summer. He became increasingly dominant as a goal scorer, leading the America East Conference with 47 goals in 2023 and leading the Bearcats in scoring with 34 goals last season.
The three goals against Richmond – in what was Maryland’s 100th all-time season opener – marked the 16th hat trick of his career.
He was a three-year varsity player at Sachem North and earned All-County and Academic All-American honors.
Maryland is no stranger to standout Sachem lacrosse players. Mike Mollot, who graduated in 1998, was a four-year starter, three-time All-American, and Team Captain with the Terrapins. He was a two-time All-ACC selection and one of 16 Tewaraarton Trophy finalists. He graduated 14th among Maryland’s all-time career point scorers.
