Sachem alum Michael Rabasca has been on the winning side of an MLS Cup for the second time in his coaching career.
Rabasca graduated from Sachem in 1987 and is the LA Galaxy’s Director of Cognitive Performance. The Galaxy won the title by knocking off the New York Red Bulls 2-1.
He was previously on staff with Toronto in 2017 when they won the Cup.
“The Sachem football fields behind Waverly Avenue Elementary were the beginning of my passion for the sport,” he said in a Q&A with Sachem Report last April. “I remember the 1982 World Cup and talking with Coach Schmidt, which were so hard to watch at the time. I also remember the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. It was just us talking with him about the game. A lot of his passion for this sport rubbed off on us a little bit.”
All those years later, Rabasca is finding ways to translate those important lessons to pro soccer players, and it’s clearly working.
