Sachem alum Joe Scally signed an extension through 2027 with Borussia Mönchengladbach of the Bundesliga. His original contract was set to expire in 2026, but the expansion of his role and overall growth in the game put him in contract talks.
“The most important thing for me is to be playing regularly. Borussia give me the chance to do that and help my development as a player,” said Scally. “The club presented me with a clear plan regarding my future during our conversations. I’m pleased to be staying at Borussia.”
Over the last two years, his rise to soccer stardom has been steady and garnered international recognition. He has played 56 matches for the first team since August 2021 and made his first appearance with the U.S. National Team in June 2022.
“Joe has developed really well with us. He quickly made the transition from being a talented youngster in our U23s to a regular for the first team, and even made the US World Cup squad. This is a great example of the journey we want our promising youngsters signed from other clubs to take,” team sporting director Roland Virkus said in a statement. “This contract extension acknowledges his development, which we want to continue supporting in the future.”
