Sachem alum Kathy O’Reilly added to her athletic resume on January 21 when she was inducted into the Seton Hall Athletic Hall of Fame for her basketball prowess.
O’Reilly, who graduated from Sachem in 1984, was inducted into the Sachem Atheltic Hall of Fame in 2017. She is one of the district’s all-time outstanding student-athletes.
At Seton Hall, she rose her game on a national level and is one of the top point guards in university history with 533 career assists, a record that stood for over 25 years. She also had 1,194 career points, the sixth most in Seton Hall history when she graduated. A Big East All-Rookie and Championship All-Tournament selection, she solidified her legacy as one of the best to do it South Orange, New Jersey.
At Sachem she packed the gym every night and was nicknamed the Kamikaze Kid by the New York Daily News for her aggressive play. A co-captain, Team MVP, outstanding senior student-athlete, All-American, All-State, All-Long Island, she was the best player of her generation in Lake Ronkonkoma.
She led Sachem to three League championships, three Suffolk County Class A championships, two Long Island titles, and a New York State public school championship. She led the team in scoring, assists, and steals and was MVP of the New York State championship.
