Many Sachem alumni work in public service and have collaborated with political officials, but many have not worked directly with the President of the United States.
Joe Sciortino, Sachem Class of 2004, is Chief of Staff for Region II of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). His region includes Puerto Rico, which has been routinely devastated by storms, including the recently violent Hurricane Fiona.
Sciortino participated in a FEMA briefing with President Biden, New York Governor Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Eric Adams, as well as a number of high ranking FEMA officials. He accompanied FEMA Regional Administrator David Warrington.
