Sachem North is sending two players to the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Cameron Lee has committed to Williams College and Mike Fasano will play at Hamilton College.
“Sending two players to the NESCAC schools is a big deal for our program,” said Sachem North head football coach David Caputo. “It proves our commitment to the student-athlete experience, in addition to the first-class opportunities that our program can create for Sachem kids. We are so proud of Cam and Michael. They will serve as great ambassadors for our program and I am confident that these elite colleges will return to recruit more of our players in the future.”
The NESCAC is a group of 11 highly selective liberal arts schools that are often referred to as “mini-Ivy” institutions because of their rigorous academic standards.
Sachem North associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Greg Lauri worked hard to make connections between the colleges and student-athletes.
Lee, one of the top rushers in Suffolk County through Week 2, was explosive last season on both sides of the ball and picked up where he left off during this shortened spring experience. Williams was pleased to lock him up for their latest recruiting class.
“We were very impressed with Cam’s big play ability which is a direct result of his competitive nature and breakaway speed,” said Tom Bluemenauer, the recruiting coordinator at Williams. “Also, after learning more about Cam from the coaching staff at Sachem North, it became very clear to us that Cam is a high character individual with tremendous leadership ability. We are looking forward to having Cam join the Williams College football family. He will be a tremendous addition to our campus and program.”
Lee has been working towards playing college football since he was little and he is equally as excited about the academic challenge as he is suiting up for the Ephs.
“I knew when I was walking around the campus that Williams was the place for me,” he said. “Everything about Williams from the town to the beautiful campus buildings and even the golf course right next to the stadium just felt right. Williams runs an elite football program that I am proud to be a part of and I am excited to start the next chapter of my life.”
As for Fasano, a veteran lineman, the “mini-Ivy” appeal played a major factor in his decision to attend Hamilton.
“It’s not only an amazing opportunity but also delivers the environment, intimacy and culture that I am looking for to continue my academic career,” he said. “While playing in the NESCAC division is an honor for anyone, Hamilton’s amazing football program as well as the team’s captains being four linemen has paved the way for me to further my own aspirations for the future.”
Sachem North now has eight players on the roster committed to college football programs.
