Sachem alum Larry Zacarese was victorious in the republican primary for Suffolk County Sheriff.
Zacarese, who is currently Assistant Chief of Police at Stony Brook University, and is a former NYPD officer who served as a plain-clothes anti-crime officer for five years until his transfer to the Emergency Service Unit of the Special Operations Division.
Zacarese’s opponent in the primary was Phil Boyle.
“I think people took great pride in voting for someone they felt qualified and is not just toeing the party line,” Zacrese told Newsday. He cautioned that Boyle could “put himself in a very precarious position” with Republicans by taking the Democratic line rather than helping to unite the party behind the GOP voters’ choice.
