Northport 33, Sachem 10

Notes on the loss

  • Northport beat Sachem for just the fourth time in 37 years and for the first time since 2007. The other loses came in 1991 and 2004. Sachem leads the overall series, 19-4-2, which started in 1975. Sachem has also outscored Northport, 639-377.
  • The 35-0 loss in 1991 was the worst of the four defeats and it was a playoff game.
  • The 10 points Sachem scored are the lowest since its 27-6 loss to William Floyd in the 2009 Suffolk County championship.
  • Northport is the first team to score first against Sachem this season.
  • Sachem has been outscored 49-35 in the fourth quarter this season.
  • Sachem has won 34 of its last 39 games. Four of the five losses are against William Floyd, including three in championship games. The Northport loss is the first regular season loss to a team other than William Floyd since 2008.
  • Sachem is now 28-23-2 all-time in Week 5 games.

Sachem East 25, Longwood 17

Notes on the win

  • Sachem East coach Mark Wojciechowski now has 9 career wins as a head coach, which is one shy of tying the most in East history (10 – Al Bertalone).

The Steven Casali File

  • Casali registered a career-high 289 yards in the win over Longwood. He was 1 yard shy of tying Matt Ferber for the single-game record at East (vs. Lindenhurst 2005).
  • Casali now has 102 carries, 883 yards and 10 touchdowns this season.
  • For his career, he has 2,619 rushing yards, and 29 rushing touchdowns … both East records.
