The Sachem East Girls track and field team went undefeated during League dual meets, wrapping up the League II Title with a 104-46 win over Lindenhurst last week.
So far the outstanding season has been defined by 3 key elements. First and foremost has been the senior and veteran leadership. With all team members moving in the same direction success was inevitable.
The second key has been covering all the running and field events. With veteran team members and rookies working hard to develop in all the specialty areas (jumps, throws, hurdles,etc..) there were no weaknesses in the Sachem East lineup for other teams to exploit.
And the third key has been team depth. This was clearly showcased by Sachem East winning 16 of the 18 relays contested during the dual meet season.
With a few Elite Invitationals coming up to prepare for the Championship season, the East Arrows will be looking to add to the already impressive results of the early season, which has included Shelby Trentini’s School Record in the 400 Hurdles (65.54) and the 13th place finish of the Distance Medley squad (Alex DeCicco, Kaylie Wessberg, Ciara Murphy, and Val Romero) in the Championship of America Distance Medley Relay at The Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
After finishing second in the Suffolk County Championship Meet this past winter, Coach Schaubs squad looks to again be in the hunt at the County, State, and National level. The Championship season begins with the Division Championships in late May and extends to Nationals in North Carolina in Mid June.
