Nokomis participating in World Wide Day of Play

Nokomis Elementary School is hosting its World Wide Day of Play this Saturday, October 6 from Noon to 3 p.m.

The event is organized by Nickelodean to have children turn off their televisions and go outside and play. This is the first time Nokomis is hosting the event, and PTA representatives from the building are very excited.

The worldwide event is in its ninth year. According to the PresidentsChallenge.org, Nickelodeon will go dark, turning off all programming for the afternoon, to inspire kids to get out and be active. In honor of Worldwide Day of Play, thousands of local schools, communities and organizations are hosting their own play day events.

Sponge Bob, Dora, Diego and other Nickelodeon characters will be making appearances.

Also, on October 13, Nokomis is hosting its Fall Festival where there will be over 30 vendors, games for kids, food and a petting zoo, which is new for this year. All funds will go for the cultural arts program at the school.

The Nokomis event is open to all Sachem families and is free.
