Sachem North closes out strong crossover season

Indoor trackSachem North girls varsity track ended its holiday break at its fourth and final crossover meet at Suffolk West today.  The team won four events and had 31 season-bests in the meet. Nikki Fogarty was the first event winner of the day in the first race of the day at the meet. for Sachem.

Fogarty ran a career-best 8.87 in the 55 m. hurdles.  Melissa Michels continued her strong weekend with a win and a No. 2 career mark in long jump with a 16’ 9 ¼” leap.  Kaitlyn Okvist won her eighth straight crossover meet shot put competition with a season-best 31’ 10 ¼” throw.

Meghan Tozza was Sachem’s lone entry in the 1500 meter racewalk.  Meghan continued Sachem’s season-long crossover meet racewalk winning streak as she moved into the lead at the half-mile mark of her race and stretched out her lead throughout the second half of her race for her first career win for Sachem.

Notable season-bests included Mara Bigornia’s career-best 4’ 10” mark at high jump.  Hurdlers Melissa Muller and Nicole Costanzo showed continued improvement with season-bests in hurdles.   Valerie Goding and Alyson Harsch also season-bested at hurdles.  Alyson also season-bested in the 55 m. dash.

Emily Lin and Jess Humann led the 600 squad’s season-best efforts as six of the eight runners in the event season-bested.  Ali Van Sicklin, Kelly Gardner and Lauren Driscoll led the sprint squad’s season-best efforts today.  Jenn Bloom had a career-best 25’ 8” throw in shotput as she continues her outstanding senior season.  The distance squad was led by Monica Abrams (1000 meters), Mackenzie Coleman (1500) and Oriana Howell (3000) strong efforts.
