Sachem North’s Lucas Singleton has committed to play football at West Point.
One of the top-rated running backs on Long Island heading into his senior season, he posted to social media this weekend that he would take his talents to Army.
“I’m honored to announce my commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Army,” he wrote. “I want to thank my family and all the coaches for believing in me and supporting me.”
Singleton ranks No. 23 all-time in Sachem history with 1,321 rushing yards. He had a strong junior season with 189 carriers, 1,107 yards, and 12 touchdowns, averaging 5.85 yards per carry.
He ran for 289 yards against Whitman in the Suffolk County Division I quarterfinals, the second yards most in a playoff game in Sachem history.
“This is a special day for Lucas, his family, and our program,” said Sachem Football coach Dave Caputo. “We are so proud of this young man and are excited about what lies ahead. While we are focused on the 2024 season, we are also excited about the future and watching him suit up for Army!”
Singleton is the first Sachem football player to commit to the Army for football since Joe Faiella in 1996. Sean O’Brien, who graduated in 2015, played football at Sachem and lacrosse at Army.
Sachem North opens the 2024 season as the No. 2 ranked team in Division I. They lost in the county championship to William Floyd last season.
Army will play in the American Athletic Conference this season for the first time. The Black Knights open against Lehigh on August 30 at Mitchie Stadium.
Sachem opens its season on September 13 at home against Ward Melville and will recognize the eight Sachem football alums who committed to service academies. That group just got another gifted athlete, and Singleton will also be recognized that night.
