Jumbo Elliott Ranked No. 60 on Giants All-Time Top 100 List

Sachem alum John “Jumbo” Elliott was ranked No. 60 on the top 100 New York Giants of all-time.

The list was selected by an independent committee of award-winning journalists and NFL and Pro Football Hall of Fame executives to celebrate the Giants’ 100th season.

Elliott graduated from Sachem in 1983 and is the only alum to play in the NFL. At 6 feet 7 inches, 305 pounds, he was a second-round pick in the 1988 NFL Draft. He spent eight seasons with the Giants and six with the Jets.

A force that paved the way for a 1,000-yard rusher in 13 of his 14 seasons, he also helped the Giants win Super Bowl XXV and played in the Pro Bowl in 1993.

“[Bill Parcells] brought out the best in me as a player,” Elliott said. “He would say you have to sustain power. That’s what it took to be a Parcells guy. Someone who had tremendous ability to sustain power, mental toughness and discipline, and very, very, very top-level work ethic.”
