Kaylise McClure Named Recipient of Newsday’s Marcus Henry Award

Kaylise McClure is busy. Busy working. Busy being an active member of her community. Busy being a leader in the school.

She does this with heart, and she does it selflessly. This is why she is Sachem’s first student-athlete to be named a recipient of Newsday’s Marcus Henry Award.

The honor is presented annually to someone who excels on the field, in the classroom, and the community.

“It’s definitely something that feels good because you try to do as much as you can, even if you go unnoticed,” McClure told Newsday. “To be recognized, it definitely feels good that all the hard work paid off. I’m just grateful that I had people that recognized me.”

On the field, she was All-State, All-Long Island, and All-County in field hockey. She was also a News 12 Scholar Athlete, the Suffolk County Division I Goalie of the Year, and Section XI’s Exceptional Senior.

She will continue her field hockey journey at Mercy University in the fall, majoring in biomedical sciences and minoring in psychology. She is also a member of five honor societies and the Model UN club.

What’s most unique are her selfless leadership traits as a certified EMT. Last summer, she also studied in Vietnam through the Future Doctors Abroad Program and the Congress of Future Medical Leaders.
