Unphased with two runners on base in the seventh inning, Olivia DeRose continued her pitching dominance and led Sachem East to its first Suffolk County softball championship.
On Saturday, the Arrows beat North Babylon, 1-0, in the Class AAA title game at Martha Avenue Recreational Park in Bellport, NY, a neutral site.
Sachem East (19-4) will play in the Long Island championship next Friday against Nassau’s Conference AAA final winner between Oceanside and Massapequa.
DeRose, who had eight strikeouts in the game, reached the 500-strikeout plateau for her career.
The Arrows’ only run came from Gianna Prisco, who recorded a two-out single in the second inning that scored Cameron Buckstein in the second inning.
Sachem’s last county softball championship was in 1993 as a unified high school, and it last won a Long Island softball title in 1990.
