Sachem alum and local business owner Mike McElwee won election to the Town of Islip board.
The Class of 1993 graduate, a conservative, defeated his opponent, Christine Pellegrino, with 54.98 percent of the vote.
McElwee, 48, owns Sayville Bait & Tackle, Goody Two-Shoes, and The Penny Pub in Bay Shore. He is also a community liaison for New York State Assemblyman Jarret Gandolfo.
In a questionnaire about his campaign, he said he would focus on quality-of-life issues like improving parks and infrastructure.
