Sachem alum Joe Cruz made his first career start on the offensive line for Syracuse football this weekend in a 28-13 win over Pittsburgh at Yankee Stadium, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the first football game ever played at the venue.
Syracuse had 382 rushing yards in the win. Coincidence? Nope. Cruz helped the line make a difference as they ran a wildcat offense that left Pittsburgh without answers.
The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Cruz, who won the Zellner Award as the top lineman in Suffolk County as a senior at Sachem, has played in all 10 games for the Orange this season.
