Sachem alum and Suffolk County Legislator Anthony Piccirillo has won re-election to his seat in the county’s 8th Legislative District.
Piccirillo, a Republican, earned 69.43 percent of the vote compared to his opponent, Heather Gallagher, who received 30.49 percent. That’s a vote total of 13,262 to 5,825 in favor of Piccirillo.
“Thank you all for the support and well wishes,” Piccirillo wrote on Facebook. “From the bottom of my heart, it’s an honor and a privilege to continue to represent you in the Suffolk County Legislature. Looking forward to continuing to fight for the people of the 8th LD!”
He earned an endorsement from Newsday before Election Day, where the media group said, “he is becoming a more consequential player in the chamber.”
His responsibilities include chairing the committee investigating the county’s cyberattack and chairing the Environment, Parks, and Agriculture Committee. He was first elected to the Legislature in 2019.
His seat was one of several that went to Republicans, who had a strong showing again this election season on Long Island. Most notable was Ed Romaine, who won the race for Suffolk County Executive, the first GOP to hold that seat in two decades.
Piccirillo graduated from Sachem North in 2001.
