Sachem Alums Partner on New Children’s Book Launch

Louis Gregory started writing a book 28 years ago, and the project came to fruition this week when “Sarah Adventurous: Forest of Sorrow” was published. It is now available on Amazon.

Focused on the main character Sarah, this work evolved over the last year to provide an understanding of the pandemic, something Gregory was not reacting to when he initially began writing in the 1990s.

“This book truly was a labor of love,” said Gregory. “Being able to create something empowering for today’s youth while encapsulating a moment in time that was important to many generations was a motivating factor for me. The pandemic can only be looked at retrospectively by students if there is literary content. It’s up to those who think that is important to create these works so that others may have the opportunity to read them.”

Like so many kids during the pandemic, Sarah was stuck at home, unable to do ordinary things. Finally, she had enough and snuck into a closed park. On her own, on an adventure, she came of age and realized it was family that was most important.

While exploring the forest, Sarah met mystical creatures, found magical gadgets, and learned valuable lessons. Through Sarah’s journey in the Forest of Sorrow, we learn about her ability to take risks, dream big and conquer fears.

Gregory, who graduated from Sachem in 1996, enlisted the help of fellow Sachem alum Chris Vaccaro, ’04, a journalist, author, professor, and publisher of SachemReport.com, to help finish the project.

Gregory, a former director of communications of U.S. Customs and Border Protection who has since launched his own collectibles business and continues to manage talent in the sports and entertainment industry, was inducted into the Sachem Hall of Honor for career success in 2018.

This is the eighth book project for Vaccaro. He is the author of seven prior works, and this is the first project he worked on as an editor, project managing the editorial and publishing process.
