As part of the festivities surrounding Sachem Football’s annual “Salute to Service” game, two very accomplished alumni were back at their alma later to offer life lessons at Sachem High School North.
Retired U.S. Navy SEALs Charlie Matranga and Sean Rosario spoke on a panel about their lives and careers before an audience of 800 students in the auditorium. It was moderated and organized by Chris R. Vaccaro, president and founder of the Sachem Alumni Association.
Matranga and Rosario also gave an intimate talk with the football program in the weight room following the larger discussion. They both played Sachem football and offered words of wisdom about supporting your team and working collectively towards goals. The men were honored to see special canvas art prints featuring their service, graduation years and images from their Navy and Sachem days that now hang in the weight room.
Prior to the “Salute to Service” game, Matranga and Rosario served as honorary captains during the coin toss. They spent the game reminiscing with former coaches and teammates on the sidelines.
Asked about the meaning of the day and events, several football players cited how unique it was to experience the dialogue with those alumni, who serve as real-world examples of success and dedication.
