Two Sachem alums were part of an Italian American celebration at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
Chris Vaccaro, ’04, and Christopher Macchio, ’96, were instrumental in pre-game festivities on Italian Heritage Night between the Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves.
Vaccaro, who is President/Founder of the Sachem Alumni Association, is also a board trustee of the Italian American Baseball Foundation. He organized the event and was on-field to present honors to Nationals’ players and representatives from the Italian Embassy. He also opened the game with a ceremonial “Play Ball!”
Macchio is a world renowned tenor who has performed at major venues, including the White House. He sang a powerful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. One Nationals executive said it was the best anthem she has heard in her 17 years with the ball club. Watch video of Macchio’s performance below.
Vaccaro linked with Sachem alum Louis Gregory, ’96, to get Macchio on board. One Sachem connection always leads to another. Bravo!
