Rick Mercurio Inducted to NILCA Hall of Fame

Sachem coaching legend Rick Mercurio added another honor to his life’s work this week.

He was inducted to the National Interscholastic Lacrosse Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Saturday night at Plandome Country Club.

The honor was in recognition of significant contributions to the game.

“It was an honor and a privilege to have been inducted into National Interscholastic Lacrosse Coaches Association Hall of Fame,” he said. “It was a great evening, shared with my family, former coaching staff and friends.”

His 316 lacrosse coaching wins in Sachem are one of the most in Suffolk County history. As chair of the development committee of World Lacrosse he has been instrumental in growing the game worldwide.

Mercurio credited his coaching staff and decades worth of passionate student-athletes.

He is also an inductee of the Sachem Athletic Hall of Fame, Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame and Long Island Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
