The legend grows.
Sachem North’s Dezy Court will be dedicated officially in honor of Sachem alum, teacher and coach Matt DiStefano on Tuesday, September 21 at 5:30 p.m.
The court had been updated in the spring, but there were no spectators allowed at events due to the pandemic, so the dedication was delayed until now.
DiStefano, a Sachem and Suffolk County Hall of Famer, was a leader on the basketball and volleyball court, respectively, as a player and coach. It’s fitting that his legacy will live forever in the gymnasium at Sachem.
He passed away after a battle with cancer in January 2020 and his memory is kept alive through the Dezy Strong Foundation.
As per school district guidelines, all attendees at the court dedication are required to wear a mask.
Sachem North’s varsity volleyball team will host a match directly after the ceremony starting at 6 p.m.
