The hype is real. It’s not even hype anymore, it’s just fact: Rafe Schlesinger is really good at baseball.
He’s that generational talent that you rarely see, that may have a very long career in the game. One game at a time, sure, but make sure you make time in your schedule to watch the young bull pitch while he’s still wearing red, black and gold.
In his last two games he has 31 strikeouts and barely allows anyone to make contact let alone give up hits and runs.
You know the story line already. He’s committed to the University of Miami like his pitching coach Neal Heaton, Sachem’s most famous baseball player. He has the same potential that Heaton did but even more fanfare because of digital and social media.
The question is not IF Schlesinger will drafted, but WHEN? There are scouts at every game. They all know the velocity is rising and his control is impeccable for a high school pitcher. His ceiling is high and don’t forget he’s a lefty.
Pencil his name in for the Yaztremski Award as the top player in Suffolk County while you’re at it. Giddy up for some fun Sachem East games down the stretch.
