Sachem alum Eddie Delaney has been named as the 2020 Irvis Outstanding Young Alumni honoree at the University at Albany.
Delaney, who attended Sachem East, was a standout football player for the Arrows and at Albany, but his work with children with disabilities that has made his legacy shine. Born with one hand, he has served as a model of battling adversity and overcoming obstacles. Imagine playing defensive end with one hand? Delaney did and he was one of the best in his conference too.
Following graduation from Albany in 2011, he began working with NubAbility Athletics, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that holds sports camps and clinics nationwide for limb-different youth ages 4-17.
The Albany alumni profile captures his responsibilities perfectly: Since 2011, Delaney has served as head football coach for the organization and is responsible for its football program, including camp planning, scheduling and managing athletes. He also manages the entire NubAbility coaching team, which consists of over 100 volunteers across the United States. Delaney is a founding member of the NubAbility Athletics Foundation board of directors and excels at fundraising for the organization. With his dedication, NubAbility has grown substantially, offering one-on-one coaching and mentoring for children in 26 sports.
Professionally, Delaney is client development lead at Ticketmaster/Live Nation Entertainment. He also worked for the Pac-12 Network.
