More hardware for Cam Lee. The Sachem North senior has won the James LaBue Award as the top scholar-athlete in Suffolk County. The honor was announced by the Suffolk County Football Coaches Association on Friday via Twitter.
Lee, one of the most versatile football players on Long Island this season, is also a standout in the classroom. He has a 98 weighted average and 94 unweighted. In the fall he was named as a News 12 Scholar Athlete.
The LaBue Award is extra special for Sachem since it was named and created in honor of Sachem alum James LaBue, who graduated in 1978. He also graduated from Cornell in 1983.
Lee is the third Sachem alum to win the honor after Dennis Kramer in 1992 and Cong Tian in 2008. Kramer played lacrosse at Princeton and Tian played football at Williams. Tim Miller, who played at Sachem East, won the honor and played at Johns Hopkins.
“Cam is a true leader inside and outside the classroom,” said Sachem head coach Dave Caputo, who also played at Cornell and presents this award every year at the SCFCA dinner. “We are proud of the legacy Cam has left here at Sachem and he will serve as an example for future generations of Sachem football players to work hard on the field, and also with academics.”
A three-sport captain and natural leader, Lee is also president of the student government and committed to play at Williams College, the top liberal arts school in the country.
