In a season of musical schedules, Sachem East football found itself at Newfield on Saturday.
The Arrows narrowly topped the Wolverines, 27-26. Newfield normally competes in Division II, but because of schools across the county going into quarantine from COVID-19, schedules have varied since the season began.
Action came down to the wire as Sachem East blocked an extra point in the fourth quarter that eventually solidified the win.
Virgilio Batista led all players with 14 carries, 283 yards and 3 touchdowns. The 283 yards are the third most in a single game in Sachem East history. The record is 290 set by Matt Ferber in 2005.
Corey Cimino scored the other touchdown for Sachem East (1-1) and had 58 yards on 4 carries.
