Sachem East baseball continues to produce Division I talent. Two more student-athletes officially signed their letters of intent this week.
Pitcher Rafe Schlesinger will play at the University of Miami and shortstop Tyler Acker signed with George Washington University.
“Our program is driven by the culture we preach on a daily basis, but means nothing if the athletes don’t buy in,” said Sachem East head coach Kevin Schnupp. “Both Rafe and Ty bought in from day one as ninth graders. We look forward to seeing them represent Sachem at the Division I level and beyond.”
Acker was ranked No. 54 in New York for middle infielders by Prep Baseball Report. George Washington plays in the Atlantic 10.
Schlesinger was one of the top pitching recruits in the nation. Miami, also home to Sachem’s most famous baseball alumni Neal Heaton, who happened to train Schlesinger, plays in the SEC.
“They are extremely driven and focused individuals who work tirelessly at their craft,” said Bryan Vaccaro, Sachem East’s varsity assistant. “They’ve grown to be role models who many athletes in the program look up too. It has been a pleasure to see both Rafe and Ty grow not only as athletes but as men over these last four years.”
In recent years, Sachem East has produced Division I talent Ryan Micheli (Stony Brook), Dan Palermo (Iona), Roman Dorosh (Jacksonville), and more than 25 others who play college baseball at all levels.
