Anthony Palermo is hoping to be the next Sachem alum to play professional baseball.
The Sachem North product was drafted by the Long Island Ducks and invited to spring training in 2021. He impressed Ducks officials after working out with over 70 other players at a recent Atlantic League tryout.
“Anthony is a local, versatile infielder,” said Ducks President/GM Michael Pfaff. “We are excited to give him a look during spring training and see how he can help our ballclub.”
There have been two other Sachem alumni to play for the Ducks. Most recently Alex Sole, who played in Double A with the Tampa Rays, and Mike Parisi, who pitched in the big leagues with the Cardinals.
Ducks Assistant General Manager and Vice President Doug Cohen is also a Sachem alum.
Following his Sachem career, Palermo played at Suffolk County Community College and hit .339 with 31 RBI and 20 runs scored as a sophomore.
He signed with St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn and became a first team All-Skyline Conference player by his senior year.
The third baseman started in all 37 games for the Bears and led the team in at-bats (127), hits (43), doubles (13), RBI (33), on-base percentage (.427) and slugging percentage (.559).
