Officer shot in line of duty gets praise from city officials
Sachem alum and NYPD officer Justin Vartanian was shot on patrol in April while pursuing a gunman on foot.
Luckily, Vartanian, who also coached football at Sachem, walked away from the incident. The suspect was shot and killed.
For his duty and service, Vartanian was recently honored by the New York State Senate with a proclamation, and received a certificate of Exemplary Police Service from the NYPD Patrol Borough Manhattan North. He is throwing out the first pitch at a Mets game soon, and will be the Man of the Year at this year’s Sachem Football Golf Outing.
