Arrows youth programs win two out of four Long Island championships at inaugural event
The Suffolk County PAL and Nassau County PAL in conjunction with the New York Lizards held the first “Lizards Town Cup”. Sachem had youth teams participate in three of the four title games and won two.
The fifth-grade team took home the 2026 Long Island title, beating a tough Manhasset group, 10-5. They finished the season with a 10-0 record also capturing the Suffolk County title.
Sixth graders, the scrappiest bunch, fell 9-8 to Half Hollow Hills. Their late game surge showed this group is tough and their grit should be on show for years to come.
And the eighth graders knocked out the mighty Dalers from Farmingdale, 7-4, to win a title. This group was coached by Sachem North varsity coach, Alex Grimm.
“Today was a proud day for Sachem,” said Sachem Sports Club President and volunteer, Terence Dee “Not because of the Town Cup and having three of the four qualifiers or the wins and tough losses. Sachem was represented with class and sportsmanship. We did things the Sachem way and showed the rest of Long Island what we are all about.”
Each group brought a specific characteristic and flair that Sachem coaches and supporters hope will carry through to the middle school and high school levels for years to come.
“The 2019 lacrosse season has been a huge success,” added Dee. “Every team and every player competed, develped and got better.”
A number of residents and coaches from Grimm to Jimmy Dee to Dave Caputo, and every parent who made the trek to Hofstra to support the teams believe in the future of Sachem athletics.
Said Dee: “The goal isn’t wins today – it’s wins tomorrow. At the high school levels league, county and state championships are what we are building towards and to do so we created a program to develop every youth player. It’s a great day to be an Arrow!”
