Irish defeat UConn in national semifinal
The fairytale continues for Sachem alum Danielle Cosgrove. A freshman at Notre Dame, she is already headed to an NCAA Division I women’s basketball championship.
The top-seeded Irish beat No. 2 UConn in the national semifinals 81-76 on Friday night. They will now face Baylor in the championship on Sunday at 6 p.m.
Cosgrove is the first Sachem alum to be part of a team to play in a Division I basketball Final Four and will now be the first in a basketball title game at that level too. There have been other Sachem alumni in other sports to play in national semifinals and championships.
Notre Dame is defending its 2018 national title. Cosgrove, who played at Sachem East, was named Suffolk County Player of the Year in her senior season last year.
