Nearly 30 eighth graders got their first taste of Sachem football with new ceremony
Football is a journey that starts way before a student-athlete straps on a varsity uniform. Sachem North football is embracing a new tradition to ignite passion and spirit in eighth graders before they get to high school with a new Commitment Day ceremony. They are one of the few programs in New York State to roll out this progressive campaign.
Students and parents packed the little theater at Sachem North on Saturday, March 23 to sign a commitment letter to show their dedication to the program over the next four years and beyond.
Sachem North coach Dave Caputo and his staff spoke to the student-athletes about dedication, determination, discipline, service and trust, the five pillars of the program.
He painted a picture of the program’s rich history, the value that football brings to students looking to play in college and the fraternity of the program that lasts for decades beyond just high school.
Players heard from and met Sachem varsity coaches, watched highlight films, went through a photo shoot and wore varsity helmets and jerseys, and signed their commitment letters.
This event followed the debut of a new annual Sachem Football Alumni Social that took place in January where they unveiled a new program marketing slogan “Fight for Sachem”, and the program will continue it’s Sachem Football Youth Experience this summer before they head into the 2019 season this fall.
