Faceoff specialist headed for professional lacrosse
In the midst of his senior season of lacrosse at LIU Post, Connor Farrell already has something to look forward to upon graduation when he’ll play for the New York Lizards of Major League Lacrosse. Farrell was selected No. 42 overall in the fifth round of the 2019 MLL Collegiate Draft.
Farrell is off to an incredible start to the 2019 season, leading all of Division II men’s lacrosse in faceoff percentage, winning 100 of 113 draws, good enough for an .885 winning percentage. He also leads Division II with 90 total ground balls and a 22.5 per game average.
Already this season Farrell shattered two NCAA Division II records when he won 34 of 37 draws against top-ranked Merrimack College, a new single-game mark. He also collected 30 ground balls, another single-game record.
Farrell is a two-sport star at Post, playing football and lacrosse like he did at Sachem East. The former All-State and All-Long Island football player compiled more tackles and interceptions than anyone in Sachem East history upon his graduation.
He joins a long list of Sachem alums to be drafted by Major League Lacrosse teams, including:
- Jason DeBenedictis, Sachem East: Denver Outlaws
- Vito Demola, Sachem East: New York Lizards
- Connor Farrel, Sachem East: New York Lizards
- Larry Faulkman, Sachem: Long Island Lizards
- Kyle Rhatigan, Sachem North: Charlotte Hounds
- Doug Shanahan, Sachem: Long Island Lizards, Chicago Machine, Philadelphia Barrage, Florida Launch
