Former Sachem student-athlete has had an interesting run at a career in entertainment
He didn’t even win the Barstool Idol competition, but Matt Cahill was compelling enough for Barstool Founder Dave Portnoy to offer him a job.
Since then the world has gotten to know Marty Mush, a character on Barstool that grew up as a student-athlete in Sachem. He was an All-Long Island volleyball player and played third base on Sachem’s Suffolk County championship baseball team before graduating in 2011.
He was active on the local comedy scene and had a cameo in House of Cards before the real fun started with El Pres.
Mush is a chronic gambler, or at least it seems that from his countless posts on social media or appearances on the Barstool Sports Advisors segment. There was no greater fight to beat on than the one he was in on Friday, February 1 when he found himself as the main event for Rough N’ Rowdy 7.
Sporting a shirt that read “Mush to the Moon” featuring his own caricature post-fight, he found himself as the winner. Notable professional athletes in attendance were rooting for him. Barstool, one of the fastest growing multimedia companies on the planet, featured him on everything from web and mobile to social and podcasts. He was even seen pre-fight with Diplo, a world-famous DJ and music producer.
We can’t wait to see what’s next for Mush. The moon?
Now that I’m not concussed. Thank you to @stoolpresidente and @EKANardini for the wild opportunity. What an insane night and shoutout to @mbrowner55 hell of a scrap. pic.twitter.com/U6ekRGRfEL
