Sachem Teachers, Students Raise $17,000 for Special Olympics

Major teamwork for volunteerism effort

More than 40 teachers and students combined efforts for the ninth annual Brookhaven Polar Plunge at Cedar Beach in Mt. Sinai to raise $17,025 for Special Olympics.

The money raised will sponsor more than 40 student-athletes to participate in local Special Olympics events at no cost to them or their families.

Recruiting efforts took place during the Sachem Extended School Year program with raffles, a Halloween movie night fundraiser at Sachem North, a dinner/movie night giveaway at Sachem North sponsored by Alberts Pizza and Regal Theater, the Samoset “jeans” fundraiser, and each Polar Plunge team member raised $400 each.
