Alum, coach and teacher earns latest athletic achievement from college alma mater
The DiStefano home just added some more hardware. Sachem alum Matt “Dezy” DiStefano was inducted into his college’s hall of fame.
DiStefano, who teaches and coaches at Sachem North, was inducted to the College of Mount Saint Vincent Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, October 19 for his accolades in volleyball. He was inducted to the Sachem Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017.

- Finished career at Mount St. Vincent with over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs
- Featured in “Volleyball Magazine” with the most kills (34) in a Division III game that season
- Mount St. Vincent retired his #2 jersey in 2004 with a ceremony before a game
- Inducted into the Northeast Volleyball Collegiate Association Volleyball Hall of Fame in April 2011
- Inducted into his HS Sachem North Athletic Hall of Fame October 2017
- Played three sports his Sophomore year at the Mount (soccer, basketball, volleyball)
- Won the “best male athlete award” at Mount St. Vincent in 2000
- Represented Long Island in the Empire State Games for 13 years (2 Scholastic and 11 Open Team); Won Two Gold Medals, Two Silver Medals and Two Bronze Medals
- Has coached volleyball at Sachem for 17 years and reached the pinnacle as the Flaming Arrows won a New York State title in 2014
