20 years later, top boys soccer teams in school history remembered
Sachem has done a wonderful job in recent years of honoring its history.
For the boys soccer program it does not get any better than the 1997 and 1998 teams that captured back-to-back New York State titles.
Team members from both squads were on-hand and honored during a ceremony at half time of the Sachem North varsity game on Saturday, September 1. Sachem beat Longwood, 2-0, to open its season to mark the commemorative day.
Sachem beat John Jay, 4-2, in 1997 and Liverpool, 2-1, in 1998. The Flaming Arrows were the first team in Suffolk County to win back-to-back Class A state titles, a monumental feat.
