At 15, Sachem North freshman made soccer history this week
One day Joe Scally is taking classes at Sachem North, the next he is on the pitch playing for NYCFC. What a life.
Scally, a freshman at the Lake Ronkonkoma high school, made his pro soccer debut for NYCFC on Wednesday evening. NYCFC played the New York Redbulls in a U.S. Open Cup match and lost 4-0.
The Open Cup contest, which generally allows for younger players to see action while veterans either rest or go off for international play, was the perfect setting for Scally to get his first taste on the big stage.
At 15 years old and 157 days he is the youngest player in NYCFC history. He is the second youngest to sign an MLS contract when he signed with the club earlier this year.
To make the moment even sweeter, Scally entered the game to sub in for international star, David Villa.
