Sachem’s volleyball program grows stronger with collegiate level talent
It’s been a fruitful week for a number of Sachem alumni starring on the collegiate volleyball scene.
The St. Joseph’s men’s volleyball team has qualified for the NCAA National Championship Tournament (D3) in just their second season. They earned the bid by winning and going undefeated (12-0) in the Skyline conference.
The team is loaded with Sachem alumni, eight total:
- Class of 2014 – Tyler Jones and Michael Barfield, Sachem East
- Class of 2015 – Danny Macnamara, Sachem North
- Class of 2016 – Kyler Biggers, Matt Cole, Dan O’Keefe, Sachem East and Paul Curaro, Sachem North
- Class of 2017 – Michael Bosco, Sachem North
Biggers was named Skyline Player of the Year. Jones, Curaro and Biggers were selected to the Skyline’s first team all-conference.
Finally, their coach, Bill Kropp from the Sachem Class of 1977, was again selected Skyline Coach of the Year.
St. Joe’s will play its first-round match against Kean on Friday at Vassar College.
In order volleyball news, Ryan Cole, from Sachem East’s Class of 2014, was selected first team in the nation’ strongest D3 conference, the United Volleyball Conference, and Matt Grace, from Sachem North’s Class of 2016, was named second team all-conference.
