Sachem alum continues rise in volleyball world, gets pre-season nomination nod.
Sachem North alum and UCLA junior Dylan Missry has been named to the Karch Kiraly Award watch list.
This award is given to the top outside attacker in Division I men’s college volleyball and will be awarded at the end of the regular season. It is one of only a handful of position awards given for college men’s volleyball.
You can liken it to the Cousy Award given to the top point guard in college basketball or the Outland Trophy given to the best interior lineman in college football.
Among the stats the committee looked at for adding him to the watch list were his career-best 2.45 kills per game average on a .293 attack percentage, and he was in the nation’s top 20 with a 0.38 aces per game average last season.
Missry was named to the 2017 U.S. Men’s Volleyball Jr. National Team which played in the U21 World Championships in the Czech Republic and was a member of the U.S. Men’s Junior National Team which won the gold medal at the 2016 NORCECA U21 Championships. He led Sachem to a New York State title in 2014.
UCLA opens its regular season on January 3 as the No. 4 ranked team in the nation.
