Recent Sachem North grad Eve Calabria was announced as the winner of the Michael Breschi Scholarship.
Established in 2007 to honor the life and memory of Michael Breschi, son of University of North Carolina men’s lacrosse head coach Joe Breschi, the scholarships are awarded annually to two graduating high school seniors who plan to attend college and are the son or daughter of a coach who serves as a full-time employee of an educational institution.
Calabria is a 2017 graduate of Sachem North High School, where she earned all Suffolk County honors in both basketball and lacrosse. She is attending Bucknell University. The school counselor at Sachem describes Calabria as a student with character and maturity.
“Eve is a humble, assertive, and intellectually polished young lady who finds value in going the extra mile,” said Edward Manly. “The daughter of two teachers, Eve has seen the power of education and learned an uncanny sense of responsibility. Her devotion to her family, schoolwork, teammates, and most importantly herself, has left a lasting impression on the faculty here.”
On behalf of my family, I’m humbled & honored to announce this year’s recipients,” he said. “After reviewing many exceptional applicants over the last few weeks, Austin and Eve stood out as two amazing individuals and terrific students who exemplify a tremendous work ethic. Their combination of community service and passion for the game of lacrosse will help carry them as they enter their respective universities. Best wishes to both Austin and Eve. We are tremendously proud of you.
