A street sign honoring fallen Sachem alum and U.S. Army Ranger Sgt. Jason A. Santora was dedicated in his honor in the community on Saturday morning.
The sign was placed at Leeds Boulevard in Farmingville during the Santora-Bonocasa VFW Post 400’s Grand Re–Opening Ceremony.
Sgt. Santora was 25 when he died in a fire fight in Logar Province, Afghanistan on April 23, 2010 during Operation Enduring Freedom.
The Sachem North alum was a member of the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment based in Fort Benning, Ga.
At the time of his death he was in his fourth deployment overseas. He served as a mortar platoon ammunition bearer and a rifle team leader.
He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medal.
