Chris Pendergast came to Merrimac along with Paul Weisman to celebrate the completion of the twentieth commemorative ALS Ride for Life. The group journeyed from Yankee Stadium – in memory of Lou Gehrig – and ended in Washington, D.C.
Since it was raining on Monday, the students and staff found a way to bring the celebration inside. They lined hallways with signs and banners, and chanted “Strike out ALS” and “Let’s find a cure!”
Chris and other friends fighting ALS have visited Merrimac for three years now to teach about this tough disease and the importance of never giving up.
The Merrimac community is also hosting a fundraiser created by fourth grade student, Leah Pulitano. She has planned and implemented a service project each year for the school to continue supporting the quest for a cure.
“It was inspiring and really teaches us to keep fighting and embrace life and the challenges it brings us,” said Merrimac Principal, Veronica DeCicco.
