Harris, Michta Coffey Compete in Pan Am Cup in Peru

Just one week after setting a new American high school record for the outdoor 1,500 Meter Race Walk – and leading the Sachem East to a team victory at the Saint Anthony’s Invitational – Lauren Harris placed 11th at the U-20 Pan American Cup 10K held in Lima, Peru.

This was the second time Harris represented USA in international competition, she placed 3rd in the USA vs. Canada Dual held up in Canada last summer.

At the Pan American Cup Harris was the first American finisher (51:08), with the top 3 finishers overall from Mexico, Columbia, and Equador, respectively.

Sachem alum Maria Michta Coffey also was the top American finisher as she placed 15th (1:35:59) in the Senior Womens 20K Race Walk at the Pan American Cup competition.

Michta Coffey’s next major competition will be the USA National Championships held in Oregon in late June, while Harris will next help the 2017 League II champion Sachem East try to three-peat at the Suffolk County Meet to be held May 23 and 25.
